ABOUT ME

I am a photographer.

I've been taking photos since high school.

My daily goal is to take one photograph where I capture a moment, a scene, a perspective, or a pattern that allows myself and others to see that there is much beauty in this world despite the cruelty, suffering, and evil that fills the news and can easily make one feel despondent and hopeless.

While most of my photography happens within a short walk or drive of my home in Saint Paul, I love to take long road trips with frequent stops to photograph things I see along the way. My academic training is in Mathematics, so my eye is drawn to patterns and symmetry. My emotional side loves how color and lighting impacts people. When the two come together in one photograph, then magic truly happens.

One finds those elements of patterns, symmetry, color, and lighting easily in nature, so I use trees, leaves, flowers, water, ice, the sun, farm fields, and other parts of nature as inspiration often for my photography. Minnesota’s seasons give one such a gift of different land and seascapes throughout the year. The creative challenge I am happy to accept is to not take the same photos of Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter year after year, but, instead, to see something new that I hadn’t observed in previous years.
